How did we measure it?
We asked five engines the same 26 unbranded questions on 9 October and again on 12 October 2026, two samples per question per run, through the DataForSEO answer-capture service with the market set to the United States. That gave 518 answers, 102 to 104 from each engine. The engines are ChatGPT with web search forced on, Gemini, Perplexity (Sonar), Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode (source: Renaissance panel, runs of 9 and 12 October 2026).
The questions cover industrial B2B marketing, AI-native agencies, and AEO and GEO for B2B brands. Examples are “best B2B industrial marketing agency”, “marketing agency for manufacturing companies”, “GEO agency for industrial companies” and “how to get a B2B brand cited by ChatGPT”. A source counts once per answer, however many of its pages the answer links, and subdomains count separately. We count citations, which are the pages an engine shows as its evidence, and we do not score whether an answer recommends a firm.
The sample is one market, one week and two samples per question. Read the counts as a map of where each engine looks, and expect them to move between weeks.

How do the five engines differ?
Each engine has its own habit (source: Renaissance panel, runs of 9 and 12 October 2026). Google AI Overviews cited YouTube in 51 of its 102 answers (50%). Perplexity cited LinkedIn in 32 of its 104 (31%). Google AI Mode cited Reddit in 18 of 104. ChatGPT cited agency sites first: fifthring.com in 19 answers and sellwithmarketing.com in 16. Gemini put directiveconsulting.com and reddit.com level at 11 answers each.
| Engine | Answers with a citation | Different sites cited | Three most cited sources (answers) |

Which kinds of page get cited?
Of 3,791 citations, 641 (17%) point to a URL whose path contains a list word such as best, top, compared or alternatives, and 412 (11%) point to a YouTube, LinkedIn or Reddit page (source: Renaissance panel, runs of 9 and 12 October 2026). The classification reads the URL only, so treat the list share as a floor.
| Kind of page | Citations | Share |
|---|---|---|
| List or roundup URL | 641 | 17% |
| Homepage | 366 | 10% |
| YouTube, LinkedIn or Reddit post | 412 | 11% |
| Other page | 2,372 | 63% |
The five most cited single pages were sellwithmarketing.com/blog/best-manufacturing-marketing-agencies-2026 (20 answers), wantbranding.com/best-manufacturing-industrial-branding-agencies (16), rhblake.com/b2b-manufacturing-thought-leadership-marketing-agency (15), sellwithmarketing.com/blog/best-b2b-marketing-agencies-manufacturers-europe-2026 (15) and fifthring.com/manufacturing-marketing-agency (14). Three of the five are agency-written “best agencies” lists for manufacturing, and the other two are agency service pages that name manufacturing in the address. Every one of them names a sector.
How often do the engines agree?
Seldom. Of the 848 sites cited, 662 (78%) appeared in a single engine, 186 appeared in two or more, 36 in four or more and 12 in all five (source: Renaissance panel, runs of 9 and 12 October 2026).
The 12 sites cited by all five engines: directiveconsulting.com, firstpagesage.com, onlineoptimism.com, reddit.com, rhblake.com, sellwithmarketing.com, thegrowthsyndicate.com, totoseo.com, walkersands.com, wantbranding.com, windmillstrategy.com, youtube.com. A marketer who wants to be found by every engine needs a presence in places like these, because a page on a site that only one engine reads reaches only that engine's users.
What should an industrial marketer do with this?
Check who wrote the list. The most cited pages are lists written by agencies on their own sites. When a list names its author, its criteria and its date, a buyer can judge it. A marketer who wants to appear on such a list should ask the author what evidence it takes.
Show up where the engines look. Google AI Overviews cites YouTube most, Perplexity cites LinkedIn most and Google AI Mode cites Reddit most, so one presence cannot cover five engines. The steps are set out in how to get a B2B brand cited by ChatGPT.
Name the sector on the page. Every one of the five most cited pages carries a sector in its address. A page that says “manufacturing” or “energy” in plain words matches the questions buyers ask. Renaissance's own sector pages are energy technology and electrical equipment and grid.
The guide to choosing an industrial marketing agency sets out four tests for any firm on a shortlist.
Where does Renaissance appear in this data?
Renaissance publishes this report, so here is its own result: renaissancegroup.io was cited in 5 of the 518 answers, all on one question (“brand strategy agency for industrial technology companies”) and all through the homepage, four times in Perplexity and once in ChatGPT (source: Renaissance panel, runs of 9 and 12 October 2026). This page ranks no agency and Renaissance sits in no table above.
