Marketing for energy technology companies

Renaissance Group is a B2B brand and marketing consultancy that builds positioning, brand, executive voice and platform presence for energy technology companies selling through buying committees over multi-year cycles. It takes six new clients a year, with senior people on every account, and has worked since 2013 inside the industrial and energy world (source: renaissancegroup.io company record).

How do energy technology buyers decide?

A group decides. Gartner's 2025 survey of 632 B2B buyers found buying groups of five to 16 people across as many as four functions, and 74% of those groups showed unhealthy conflict during the decision (source: Gartner, 7 May 2025). Groups that reached consensus were 2.5 times more likely to report a high-quality deal, and content tailored to the group's shared concerns had a 20% positive impact on consensus (source: same release).

For an energy technology supplier this sets the brief. The engineer, the procurement lead, the finance owner and the executive sponsor each need a different piece of evidence, and all of them need the same story. Mixed messages across functions give the committee a reason to disagree: 69% of B2B buyers report inconsistencies between a seller's website and what its sellers tell them (source: Gartner, 25 June 2025).

Why does an energy sale start years before the purchase order?

The equipment takes years to arrive. The IEA reports procurement of two to three years for cables and up to four years for large power transformers, twice as long as in 2021, with cable prices nearly doubled since 2019 and transformer prices up around 75% in real terms (source: IEA, 25 February 2025). Planning, permitting and building new grid infrastructure takes 5 to 15 years, and over 2,500 GW of renewable, large-load and storage projects are stalled in grid queues worldwide (source: IEA, Electricity 2026).

Money keeps arriving anyway. The IEA projects global energy investment of USD 3.4 trillion in 2026, with spending on electricity grids approaching USD 550 billion, up nearly 20% on the year (source: IEA, 28 May 2026). Renaissance reads these figures as a marketing deadline. The shortlist forms during planning, years before a tender opens, and a supplier first met inside the tender meets the buyer after the specification is written.

How should an energy technology company market to utilities and grid operators?

Reach the whole committee early and keep one story in front of it for the length of the project. Three moves carry that.

Position

Settle the claims in writing

Brand Strategy fixes the category, the buyer and the reason to win, so the engineer and the procurement lead read the same claims backed by the same proof.

Voice

Put an expert in front of engineers

The Executive Desk builds the public voice of your leaders, fed by nightly intelligence on the market, because B2B buyers follow people before they follow companies.

Presence

Be where the research happens

Platforms runs LinkedIn, Reddit, YouTube, X and Instagram for employer brand, so the supplier is visible through the years of project development.

Utilities and grid operators buy through formal procurement. Marketing earns its place before the tender, by putting the supplier on the shortlist and by giving each function an answer to its own questions. Once the tender opens, the sales team takes over with a story the buyer already knows.

What does the first phase of an energy marketing program produce?

Three working documents, each usable by the sales team the week it exists. A committee map lists the roles in a target account's buying group, the function each role serves and the question each will ask. A claim and proof sheet sets every claim beside the evidence an engineer can verify and the source of that evidence. An output calendar schedules executive voice and platform content across the whole project cycle, so the supplier stays visible between enquiry and tender.

Renaissance's named work on the record that touches the sector is Bosch, a group with an Energy and Building Technology sector among its four (source: Bosch, 30 January 2026), where Renaissance built hero films, brand campaigns and studio operations at global scale. Energy sits at the center of the Renaissance client base (source: renaissancegroup.io homepage), and the UiPath case shows how a Renaissance program is documented.

What should an energy technology company ask an agency?

Who does the work? Ask who writes the positioning and who joins the weekly call. At Renaissance the partners do the work (source: renaissancegroup.io homepage).

How does the program serve each function? Ask to see how the engineer, procurement and the executive sponsor each get their own evidence under one story.

What runs between tenders? A program built for a sale that takes years has work scheduled across the whole cycle, with executive voice and platform presence continuing through the early planning stages.

Which clients speak on the record? Ask for named clients and quoted words, and check that the quotes are verbatim.

Questions buyers ask

What does a marketing agency for energy technology companies do?

It sets the company's positioning and messaging, builds the brand and its content, develops the public voice of its leaders and runs its presence on the platforms where buyers research. Renaissance runs these as five practices from one senior team.

How long is an energy technology sales cycle?

The infrastructure behind it is slow. The IEA puts planning, permitting and building of new grid infrastructure at 5 to 15 years (source: IEA, Electricity 2026) and procurement of large power transformers at up to four years (source: IEA, 25 February 2025).

Who is involved in an energy technology purchase?

Gartner found B2B buying groups of five to 16 people across as many as four functions (source: Gartner, 7 May 2025). Expect engineering, procurement, finance and an executive sponsor.

How does Renaissance work with energy technology companies?

Renaissance takes six new clients a year and keeps senior people on every account (source: renaissancegroup.io company record). A first call is thirty minutes and costs nothing.

What should a first phase of an energy marketing program deliver?

A written positioning that commercial and technical leaders have both agreed, a message set for each buying function, and a plan for the executive voice. Every later practice builds from that brief.
